Galaxy S24 Ultra vs Samsung Z-Fold 5 - Which Samsung Phone Offers More Value?

SUMMARY:

In the battle between Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra (Note 24) and Galaxy Z-Fold 5, both devices bring impressive features but cater to different needs. The S24 Ultra, continuing the legacy of the Note series, excels with its SPen functionalities. It offers SPen detection and alerts, which help track and remind you about your SPen. It also includes the SPen with remote control features at no extra cost, unlike its cousin the Z-Fold 5, where the SPen with and without its remote capabilities come as additional costs. Additionally, it provides Quick Notes function and customizable SPen sound effects, enhancing usability and personal touch.

     The
S24 Ultra’s camera is another highlight, featuring a 100x zoom that outperforms the Fold 5’s more modest zoom capabilities. Despite its superior features, the S24 Ultra is priced lower at around $1,300 (400,000 PkR) compared to the Z-Fold 5’s $1,800 (600,000 PkR), making it a more cost-effective option. It also boasts a longer battery life with its 5,000mAh battery, in contrast to the Z-Fold 5’s 4,400mAh, which is stretched by its larger screen.

     While the
Galaxy Z-Fold 5 impresses with its foldable design and multitasking, the Galaxy S24 Ultra offers better value with advanced SPen features, better camera zoom, and longer battery life. For those who value practicality and cost-efficiency, the S24 Ultra is the standout choice, and which is why I am missing this phone.

Introduction:

Hey, tech-saavies! Today, I decided to do something different, and dive into a detailed comparison between 2 flagship Samsung devices: the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and the Z-Fold 5. I’ve been a loyal Galaxy Note fan since its third generation, and after a year with the Galaxy Z-Fold 5, I find myself becoming nostalgic about the S series. So, let’s explore the pros and cons of these 2 devices to see which might be the better choice for you.

Samsung has always been at the forefront of mobile innovation, and their Galaxy lineup showcases this intelligence. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is a marvel of foldable technology, offering a unique hybrid-phone design that stands out in the smartphone market and can transform into a phone or a tablet at will.

On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra continues to be the incarnation of Galaxy Note series with its robust features and powerful performance. Both phones support the SPen, but they offer different experiences. Let’s dive into what sets them apart and which might be better suited for your needs, also why I am wishing to buy the Galaxy Note back.

SPEN Detection & Alerts:

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra excels in SPen management with features that are notably absent in the Z-Fold 5. For instance, when you remove the SPen from its slot, the S24 Ultra displays the date and time of its removal. This feature can be incredibly useful if you accidentally leave your stylus behind, as it helps you trace your steps. Additionally, the SPen Alert functionality on the S24 Ultra will remind you if you forget to reinsert its stylus, ensuring you never leave it behind. These styluses are expensive about $50 (7,000 PkR) to purchase a new one, so you do not want to loss it in the first place.

Quick Note Feature:

Quick Note functionality on the S24 Ultra is something I genuinely miss when using the Z-Fold 5. With the Galaxy S24 Ultra, you can quickly jot down notes by simply pulling out the stylus and writing directly on the screen when the screen is locked. Yes, you can do that with Z-Fold series, but there is an extra step of pressing a button. It may not sound like a lot when I am speaking on a paper, but when you need to swirl a quick memo, it makes a huge difference. While the Z-Fold 5 also supports note-taking, the immediate access to Quick Notes on the S24 Ultra makes it more convenient for on-the-go scribbles.

SPEN Sound Customising:

For those who appreciate a bit of fun with their technology like me, the S24 Ultra’s SPen customization options are a highlight. Thanks to Good Lock, you can customize the sound effects of the SPen’s insertion and removal. Whether it’s the “Going into hyperspace” sound when taking out or the “Super Mario pipe” as you insert it back in, these personalized touches add a layer of enjoyment to your interactions with the device.

No Extra Cost For SPEN:

Another advantage of Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is that the SPen comes included with the phablet and includes remote control functionalities. This remote feature allows you to control various applications, such as swiping through Spotify, taking photos from a distance, and more. While the Z-Fold 5’s stylus is separate and requires additional purchases: $79 for the case with the basic SPen and another $47 for the remote control SPen, this added expense can make the S24 Ultra a more cost-effective option. Not only your getting the SPen with the remote control function, but you are also getting a slot to keep it in.

I miss that I have a slot, so I could simply change the wallpaper, change the ringtone and change the cover out of 3 - 4 covers I already purchase, and make it feel like a brand new phone every time. But with Samsung Galaxy Z-Fold 5, I cannot do that, since not only I cannot do that, but I am stuck with the SPen case and the cases with stylus slots are relatively very expensive. I have by a twist of fate broke the top of my cover and still, I cannot even thing of buying another one.

The Future - On-Screen Fingerprint:

Although the fingerprint sensor on the side of the Galaxy Z-Fold 5 is neither outdated or inferior, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra's on-screen fingerprint technology feels like a significant advancement to the future. A device's ability to reflect the continuous advancements in both design and technology is just as important as its appearance. With its futuristic features integrated into its sleek, uninterrupted display, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra feels very much like a device from 2019 and beyond. The Galaxy Z-Fold 5, on the other hand, reminds you that while innovation is important, familiarity and practicality also play important roles in gadget design. This is because of its more conventional approach.

Update Timeliness:

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 5Gangster Alpha Omega Supreme [As Flossy Carter names it] benefits from being released before the Galaxy Z-Fold 5, meaning it typically receives updates sooner. For users who value being at the cutting edge of software updates like me, this can be a significant advantage.

Camera Zoom Capabilities:

When it comes to photography, Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra’s camera setup shines with its upto 30x optical zoom, thanks to periscope telephoto, and 100x digital zoom feature. Although, some criticisms have been directed at the zoom quality, I found it quite effective. The Galaxy S24 Ultra’s zoom capabilities allow you to capture distant details, such as text on signs or fine details in far-off scenes. The Samsung Z-Fold 5, with its more modest zoom options, doesn't quite match the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra in this regard.

Much Better Battery Life:

Samsung Galaxy Fold 5, with its more traditional design, houses a 5,000mAh battery, providing longer battery life that is less strained by the screen size. However, the design of Z-Fold 5 does come with some trade-offs, such as a smaller battery capacity of 4,300mAh, which struggles with the larger screen’s power demands. Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra's book-like design is certainly unique and feels like holding an actual, digital, pocket-sized notebook.

Cost-Effectiveness:

Despite offering a wide range of features mentioned above, one surprising aspect is the cost difference between these 2 devices. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 5G is priced lower at $1,300 (400,000 PkR). In contrast, the Galaxy Z-Fold 5, with its more fragile design and fewer features, comes in at a steep $1,800 (600,000 PkR). This price disparity makes the Galaxy S24 Ultra a more attractive option for those who want premium features without breaking the bank.

Conclusion:

So while the Samsung's Z-Fold 5 impresses with its innovative foldable design, additional folding related features and triple applications multi-tasking capability; those will be missed, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra holds strong with its superior stylus features, better camera zoom, cost-effectiveness, and longer battery life. The Galaxy S24 Ultra seems to offer a more refined and practical experience for Galaxy knights who value performance and efficiency over foldable technology.

Takzi's Opinion

All and all, I find myself missing and leaning towards the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. The nostalgia for the Note series and the practical advantages it offers make it a compelling choice. The additional SPen features, combined with the cost savings and bigger battery life, make it a better fit for my needs. However, if you are drawn to cutting-edge foldable technology that the Z-Fold series offers and love the idea of a true phablet, the Samsung's Z-Fold 5 is still an astonishing device.

The way you explained everything, from the cost-effectiveness to the updates, made it easier to see which phone is more aligned with everyday needs.
